Kalbarri

After leaving Geraldton we headed to Kalbarri. Along the way we stopped at the Lynton Convict Ruins and had a look around before continuing on into Kalbarri.

In Kalbarri we set up at the Anchorage Caravan Park which was a beautiful quiet park overlooking the Murchison River and it had a huge pool - which we made good use of.

Tuesday morning we did school and then packed a picnic lunch and headed towards the Kalbarri National park.  Our first stop was a lookout, which had a nice view over the area, we also saw some feral goats wandering the hills.

After the lookout we headed out to see "Nature’s Window" (a rock formation overlooking a gorge).  It was 26kms out to Nature’s Window  along a very rough corrugated dirt road which was no problem to us, we over took a number of motor homes taking it very slow - it would have taken them hours to get out there!  The road was so rough our fibreglass UHF radio aerial sheared off as we drove along.

It was stinking hot and the flies were shocking but the views and scenery were well worth it.  We walked out and had a look at Nature’s Window and the beautiful gorges in the area and had a picnic lunch with the flies.  Our one fly net came in very handy as we all took turns of it to have a break from the flies (when we got back to town we bought another 4 fly nets).

After lunch, we went to have a look at the 'Z-bend' gorge which was not too far from Natures Window.  It was a spectacular gorge.

After driving the 26km back to the main road we continued on to see Hawks Head and Ross Graham lookout, more beautiful gorges.  Before heading back to the caravan park for a swim.

Wednesday we head a quick look through town and then  headed out the other side of town to see Natural Bridge, Island Rock,  and Pot Alley Beach  before heading back to swim again.

The coastline around Kalbarri is so beautiful, that you almost get tired of stopping and looking at something new and spectacular - we decided not to look at Red Bluff (Except from the car) as we were all pretty hot and exhausted.  We really enjoyed our time in Kalbarri and the surrounding areas.  It is such a beautiful part of the country.  We'd recommend it to anyone.

On Thursday morning we packed up,  said goodbye to Kalbarri and headed toward Monkey Mia.
